COURSE OVERVIEW
Easy Steps to Saving is a two-day financial training that makes the discipline of saving simple, strategic, and sustainable. Designed for beginners and everyday earners, this course breaks through the myths and obstacles surrounding saving money and introduces a step-by-step system to help participants build consistent saving habits.
Through live teaching, exercises, and hands-on planning, participants will learn why saving is essential, how to make it automatic, and how to align their savings strategy with their personal goals. This course is part of the 12-course Easy Steps to Financial Empowerment Bundle, but can also be taken independently.
COURSE BENEFITS
Participants will finish the course with a comprehensive understanding of how to save money consistently—regardless of their income level. They will learn how to differentiate between emergency funds, sinking funds, short-term savings, and long-term savings. More importantly, they will walk away with a fully customized saving plan and tools to implement it immediately.
This course also helps break generational patterns of financial instability by teaching a savings system that is realistic and tailored to each person’s situation. Participants will develop a positive, confident relationship with money and savings.

There are no educational or income-level requirements for participation. This course is especially beneficial to those who feel stuck or overwhelmed when it comes to saving money.
COURSE OUTCOME
Upon completion of the course, participants will:
- Understand the psychology and principles of saving
- Identify and eliminate saving blockers and sabotaging habits
- Set realistic and achievable saving goals
- Create a categorized saving plan: emergency, short-term, long-term, and legacy
- Implement a savings schedule based on their actual budget
- Utilize software or apps to automate and track saving goals
- Gain confidence to prioritize saving over spending
COURSE PREREQUISITES
There are no formal prerequisites. However, it is recommended that participants:
- Have a basic understanding of their income and monthly expenses
- Complete or be familiar with concepts taught in “Easy Steps to Budgeting”
- Come prepared with access to a device for using online tools or templates
All resources will be provided digitally or in print depending on the delivery format.

- Saving Plan Template (editable Excel and printable version)
- Saving Tracker for various goals (emergency fund, vacation, etc.)

- Access to class replays (available for 30 days)
- Certificate of Completion upon submission of a savings plan

FOLLOW-UP SOLUTION
After completing the course, each participant will be supported to develop and execute a personalized savings plan using available industry software (such as Qube, YNAB, or Excel). Participants will be encouraged to link their plan to their existing monthly budget and automate their savings where possible.
Ongoing follow-up may include group coaching, progress check-ins, and access to accountability support from the Financial Power Institute or partner programs.

DAY 1 – SAVING FOUNDATIONS

- 0:00 – 0:15: Welcome and Participant Introductions
Introduction to the course framework, objectives, and success stories. - 0:15 – 0:45: Module 1 – The Psychology of Saving
Understand why many people don’t save and how beliefs and habits affect outcomes. - 0:45 – 1:30: Module 2 – The Four Categories of Saving
Emergency, short-term, long-term, and future-building savings explained in detail. - 1:30 – 2:00: Module 3 – How Much Should I Save?
Explore savings benchmarks like 10%, 20%, and percentage-based strategies. - 2:00 – 2:30: Module 4 – Tools and Technology for Saving
Introduction to banks, digital wallets, apps, auto-transfers, and goal-specific tools. - 2:30 – 3:00: Module 5 – Beginning Your Saving Plan
Guided exercise: participants begin drafting a personalized savings strategy.
Homework Assignment:
Complete your savings categories worksheet and identify one specific goal to focus on for the next 30 days.
DAY 2 – SAVINGS STRATEGY AND IMPLEMENTATION

Total Duration: 3 Hours

- 0:00 – 0:15: Recap, Q&A, and Motivation
Recap of Day 1 highlights and real-time sharing of insights from homework. - 0:15 – 1:00: Module 6 – Building Your Saving System
Develop a realistic and sustainable savings calendar based on income patterns. - 1:00 – 1:30: Module 7 – The Emergency Fund Challenge
Understand how to build a starter emergency fund of $500–$1,000 and grow from there. - 1:30 – 2:00: Module 8 – Protecting Your Savings from Sabotage
Explore how to resist lifestyle inflation, impulse spending, and access temptation. - 2:00 – 2:30: Module 9 – Saving as a Household or Couple
How to align with a spouse or partner on saving goals, strategies, and discipline. - 2:30 – 3:00: Module 10 – Finalizing Your Saving Plan + Next Steps
Participants present their savings plan draft, commit to a goal, and receive final tools for implementation.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
Certificates will be awarded to all participants who attend both sessions and submit a completed savings plan. These certificates are jointly issued by the ISBF Institute and the Financial Power Institute, and may be counted toward completion of the 12-course Easy Steps to Financial Empowerment track.
